Temporary Files from Import

This page discusses the temporary files creating during a PluralEyes 3.5 import, and what happens if there is a problem with importing the file.

Managing the temporary files

During the import process, PluralEyes creates temporary files that contain a copy of the audio content of clips. PluralEyes creates a subfolder called "pluraleyes_synctemp" in the folder containing your media files, and generates temporary .dat files in the "pluraleyes_synctemp" folders.

Temporary files consist of audio content that has been extracted from video files. After exporting the Timeline for a project, you can safely delete the temporary files by clicking File> Delete Temporary Files (Mac) or File> Close Project and Delete Temp Files (Win), then closing your PluralEyes project.

Saving the temporary files to an alternative location

You can also choose where to save the temporary files by choose File > Choose Folder for Temporary Files. This helps when the media is located in a location that your machine does not have a permission to write to such as an ISIS drive for Media Composer users.

Displaying the clips after import

In order to create these temporary files, PluralEyes “extracts” audio content from your media files.

Clips from which audio content has been successfully extracted are displayedwith a thumbnail graphic and a waveform.

If audio extraction fails for a clip, it is displayed with a question mark icon and no waveform. Learn more about import errors
